THE INTEGRAL ROLE THE TRANSPORT AND LOGISTICS SECTOR WILL PLAY IN THE RECOVERY OF THE ECONOMY
The Women in Transport Awards in partnership with the Durban Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the Women in Business Forum, invites you to join us on Thursday 29 October 2020 at 10:00 where we will focus on the integral role that the transport and logistics sector will play in the recovery of the economy.
The all-female line-up will discuss resilience within the sector and the role women will play in the recovery of our economy. The panel will also consider an effective response to the impact Covid-19 has on our economy and why the transport and logistics sectors are crucial to this rebuild and recovery.
COFFEE WITH TANGER MED, MOROCCO
During this high-level discussion, Ahmed Bennis – the Group Business Development Director of Tanger Med discussed the port’s integrated programme – one guided by a royal vision.
Mr Bennis’s presentation was followed by a discussion around the automated facilities at the region’s smart port as he was joined by Oscar Bercedo, the Managing Director for TI Automotive and Julianne Furman the Managing Director of Polydesign Systems. Jeff Blackbeard the Regional Director for Moore Global moderated this session.
BUILDING RESILIENT, AGILE AND INCLUSIVE SUPPLY CHAINS THROUGH DIGITALIZATION
The evolution of terminal logistics within the port environment continues to evolve and innovative ICT applications are key enablers. From integrating customs requests to having a view of terminal operations at a click of a button.
This interactive session by Transnet Port Terminals detailed the technological advancements made to date to improve both port terminal performance and ease of doing business.
COFFEE WITH THE CEO: ZAMBIA RAILWAYS LTD
On 6 October at 10:00 SAST, we hosted the CEO of Zambia Railways Limited, Christopher Musonda who presented on survival measures to continue projects and encourage intra-regional trade.
Musonda was joined by the former MD of Mpulungu Harbour Corporation and current MD of Mondell Commodities Limited, Davies Kaluba who moderated the session and also addressed the impact on the northern circuit.
COFFEE WITH THE CEO: TRANSNAMIB
On 28 September at 14:00 SAST, we hosted the CEO of TransNamib, Johny Smith. In his presentation, Smith will covered the rail authority’s strategy for the SADC region post Covid-19.
This session was moderated by Professor Andrea Giuricin from the University Milan Bicocca and the CEO of TRA Consulting.
COFFEE WITH THE CEO: WALVIS BAY CORRIDOR GROUP
On Monday, 14 September 2020, Transport Evolution World hosted the CEO of Walvis Bay Corridor Group, Mbahupu Hippy Tjivikua as he presented on his plans for Covid-19 recovery, as well as what needed to be done to improve corridor efficiency and the handling of cargo. WBCG was joined by their partners Leslie Mpofu from Trans Kalahari Corridor Secretariat, as well as Elias Mwenyo from Namport for this discussion.
This session was once again supported by Moore Global and moderated by their sector expert, Stan Whiting.
WOMEN IN TRANSPORT AWARDS DIGITAL ROADSHOW
On 27 August, we hosted the first Women in Transport digital roadshow. Celebrating women, our all-female panel discussed sustainability efforts in the transport sector and how women are driving this.
The session’s power panel included:

- Cathie Lewis, Sustainability Lead at Grindrod
- Nangamso Maponya, Principal Project and Infrastructure Finance at DBSA
The session was moderated by Candice Whitefield, Director of Moore Global.

COFFEE WITH THE CEO: Guilherme Gazabim, Nacala Logistics
On 12 August, we were delighted to host Mr Guilherme Scagion Gazabim the Chief Operating Officer of Nacala Logistics. Mr Gazabim joined us from Brazil where he presented on some of Nacala Logistics’ projects within the Nacala Corridor, as well as the investment in the Northern Line linking to Zambia. The session was moderated by Stan Whiting, Management Consultant of Moore Global.
COFFEE WITH THE CEO: Richard Dambo, Ghana Railway Development Authority
On 14 July Transport Evolution World hosted Richard Dombo – CEO of Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) in a live interview moderated by Ziad Hamoui, National President – Ghana at Borderless Alliance. Mr. Dombo, summarised the state of the rail industry over the past few years, the effect of Covid-19 on current developments and the road ahead.
Following Dombo’s presentation, he was be joined by Yofi Grant, CEO of Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) for a questions and answers session with the audience.
COFFEE WITH THE CEO: Osorio Lucas, MPDC
On Friday, 12 June, Transport Evolution World hosted Osorio Lucas – Chief Executive Officer of Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC), Mozambique in a live interview, moderated by John Stanford, Regional Director of Moore Global. Lucas gave feedback on how Maputo has been affected by COVID-19, what MPDC has been doing since lockdown and what the strategy for 2020 looks like.
Following Lucas’ presentation, he was joined by some of MPDC’s key partners including Christian Roeder, CEO, DP World and Vishal Deeplaul, CEO, Grindrod Terminals for a questions and answers session with the audience.
